The comfort women issue tells us how women and children become the main victims of wars and militarism. The right wing Japanese government and politicians, trying to remilitarize Japan, have consistently denied their war crimes in WWII or even beautify or justify the past wrongdoings. They have tried to change and violated and their Peace Consititution which was established after the WWII.
As the Bush Administration seeks for a partner for the "War on Terrorism", the two parties' interests met and now Japan and the US is closer than ever. Japan already sent troops to Iraq violating its Peace Consistution while the US, the winner of the WWII, tolerated such a violation.
